Mission Statement

Washington Township Youth Association encourages youth development by providing opportunities for personal and athletic growth. Washington Township Youth Association promotes sportsmanship, self-esteem, and the development of life skills. These attributes are achieved through the process of engaging youth in sports while providing a safe, healthy, and positive environment in which the youth of our community can learn the fundamentals of sports.

History

The Brass Castle Youth Association, today known as the Washington Township Youth Association, was formed in the spring of 1956 by Jim Strunk and Phil Friese to accommodate Brass Castle baseball players unable to play for Washington Borough. The first official team was organized in 1957. The team was sponsored by King’s Coal and Lumber Yard whose symbol was a cub. They played their home games in a field next to the grange on Brass Castle Road.

Over the course of 55 years, thanks to the founders’ initiative and vision, the youth association has grown from one baseball team with 15 participants to 65 teams from 6 sports with over 500 participants.

This organization became the Washington Township Youth Association in 1978. The WTYA is non-profit (IRS 501c3) organization dedicated to providing athletic programs to the Township's children in grades K-8. The sports programs include Softball, Soccer, Field Hockey, Basketball, Boys Lacrosse and Girls Lacrosse
